Project Impact 2014

Project Impact 2014 | The Kardia Blog

Yesterday I posted about volunteering, community service, and something my college does every year that's called Project Impact. I mentioned that I was a site leader and that the organization my group was helping was the Down's Syndrome Association for Families. This organization provides support for individuals with Down's Syndrome, their family, and friends, and also gives them a better vision for the future. One of the events they do is an annual Capital City Walk to fundraise and promote awareness. Buttons are made using pictures of the children with Down's Syndrome to give out to participants. That's what a few of my friends and I were doing for Project Impact; we were helping make over 300 buttons for the walk.

The day started out with breakfast and handing out t-shirts (and sunglasses, even though it was rainy) under the clocktower on campus.

Then they had everyone come together to take a group picture and find enough volunteers for each site.

My team stayed on campus inside one of the main buildings. Using a few button presses, we set up an assembly line and got to work making all the buttons!

Each child had a team name for the walk. Aren't they adorable?!

Volunteering was so much fun! I'm so glad I had the chance to help the community. A few friends and I are actually thinking of joining in on the walk or simply volunteering to help. I can't wait to participate in Project Impact again next year!

And like always, here are some fun links for your weekend!

Beautiful Words

Blogging has quickly become an aeipathy for me. This new found love has connected me with so many wonderful people and opportunities. I never dreamed of watching something that I started as a hobby turn into a full blown passion of mine. It's incredible!

Today I'm sharing some words that I find really beautiful. These  words describe feelings and passion. While I was picking them out, I realized that they say a lot about my own life, who I want to be, and what I'm passionate about. What about you?

This word sounds so fancy and sophisticated! I want to be a quaintrelle woman.

I love words that describe a feeling, especially one that I've experienced personally. Forelsket: the butterfly's, the giggles, the dreaming, the laughing, the smile seen through one's eyes. It's falling in love.

When I first read the definition of this word, I immediately associated it with love. Unconditional, true, forever love.

Blogging has definitely increased my passion for writing. Writing is an art form that allows you to express whatever you want. Words are so powerful!

My querencia is when I'm with my family and Caleb. I know they support me and that alone speaks love to me. Where's your querencia?

Here are some great things I found this last week (when I was supposed to be doing homework):

It's finally Friday! I feel like this past week has been the longest week ever. But thankfully this weekend is a long weekend, so I have the chance to recharge and organize myself so I don't feel as frazzled.

This Saturday night my college's ASB is planning a carnival themed handshake event. There's a costume contest too! My only problem is...I have no clue what I should dress up as. Any suggestions? (I really hate clowns, so that's a no.) Maybe cotton candy? :/

On a different note, I love Pinterest. If you scroll through my 6,000+ pins, you can see that I have a distinct style that I like. This pin lineup I'm sharing with you today really represents the color palette I'm feeling these days: bright, pink, fresh, pastels. I hope you enjoy them!

This Weekend + Links

This Weekend + Fun Links | The Kardia Blog Today I'm heading down to Lincoln for my second year of college! I'm both excited to see all my friends and start a new school year, but I'm also very sad because I have to leave my boyfriend here in Minnesota for a month. It's going to be hard to not have him there sharing experiences with me at different events and to just spend time with. Admittedly, I'm a little scared. It's really hard to do things without your best friend. But I'm really thankful that he's coming in a month and not longer! I don't know how long-distance couples do it! Props to you!

Since this weekend is super crazy for me, here's a few fun links I found over the week for you to unwind and enjoy!

What are you doing this weekend?
