I honestly can not believe it is March already. February was so short! But I guess it did have only 28 days. Because of that, it's now the first friday in March, which means...it's time for the second Flourish linkup! :)
10 Things I Am Grateful For:
- My parents and sister
- A home to go home to
- Small gestures of kindness
- Comfy shoes
- Great customer service
- A new day
- Blueberry muffins :)
I will flourish in relationships with others this year by
Freeing myself of bad influences. There have been times in my life when I forgive a person over and over and yet they continue to be mean and hurt me. I did that for 11 years once. I kept on forgiving until one day, we just simply stopped talking to each other. And that was it. No closure, nothing. It took me 11 years to realize I had a toxic friendship. I don't want that to happen again, so I'm much more careful when choosing who I trust. And if I sense the friendship is one sided, it's probably not a healthy one.
Showing appreciation and love through small gestures of kindness. Over the last few weeks I've noticed many random acts of kindness being performed, and it warms my heart :) I want to show how much I care for my friends and family in simple ways, such as getting them something they need when they're stressed or baking a cake for an accomplishment.
Spending more time with friends and family. This is most likely the number one thing that will positively impact my relationships with others. The more time we spend together, the more intimate the relationship. While we are all very busy, making the time to talk and enjoy each other's company will bring us closer together. So make time for your friends and share in their joy, comfort them when they need comfort, laugh and tell stories to each other, and build a solid friendship.
Keeping jealousy at bay. Going to a relatively small school means that you know almost everyone on campus. One of the downsides is that you also know a lot of what happens in their lives. To stop the spread of unnecessary gossip, I want to focus on being happy for others when success or celebrations come their way instead of being jealous. Honestly, this will take some effort on my part because I find myself wishing I had what others have a lot. By containing jealousy, I'll have a more positive mindset when it comes to my relationships with my peers.
Last month we wrote on how we planned to flourish creatively in our lives. One of my goals was to discover my "style". Over the last month I've done a lot of thinking about what I want my style to be.
Creatively, I've discovered that my style is simple, clean, and elegant. I like smooth lines and whitespace. You could call it a minimalistic style if you wished, but I like to think that my style has some flair to it! ;)
Fashion wise, my style is pretty much the same: simple, clean, and elegant, but I emphasize comfort and practicality! I wore a dress and heels for 8 hours yesterday for the inauguration of my college's new president and I just about died from the pain. I just don't understand how some girls wear heels and carry a tote bag to school! Where do you put your books and papers??
Anyways, over the last month I've also spent more time sketching and observing. I've found that taking the time to sit and not worry about all the tasks I need to complete allows me to free up some creative space in my busy brain. I'll continue to flourish creatively, everyday, because it allows me to be me :)
Next month's prompt is how you will flourish emotionally. Examples would include: making things right with people, not holding any grudges, spending more time doing the things you love, etc. If you're new to the linkup, you can find all of the details right here! I hope you join us sometime, because I'd love to read what you have to say!
The linkup will go live the first Friday of every month at 6 am CST. You’ll be able to submit your take on the week’s prompt, as well as discover how other’s are planning to Flourish in the different aspects of their lives! My hope is that this linkup will encourage you to take steps, however big or small, towards becoming the best version of yourself. Don’t aim for perfection, but refine what works for you. Here’s to Flourishing in 2015! [inlinkz_linkup id=503444 mode=1]
