Happy New Year everyone! :) I love the feeling of a fresh start. The feeling of a clean slate and all the endless possibilities make me giddy! With a new year comes new changes to The Kardia. It's hard to believe that it's already been four whole months since I hit publish. Crazy. I just wanted to keep you guys up to date on what will be happening this coming year. It's all exciting! This is a somewhat longer post than normal, but to reward you for getting through the whole thing, there's a special treat for you at the end :)
Blog Changes 2015
[Tweet "2015 is here! Things are about to get #reallygood! via @britthouchins"]
If you take a look at the sidebar, you'll notice a change in the categories section! When I first started this blog, I had no clue what I wanted to focus on. I wanted to talk about everything, and because of that, there were some category links that had few, if any, posts in them (I'm looking at you How To category!)
As this blog grows and changes, the categories will too. Someday I'll have time to post DIY projects and someday there might be some recipe posts thrown into the mix. But for the time being, these five categories are what everything I blog about will fall under.
This is where my heart is and this is the direction I want to steer The Kardia in 2015. I hope you'll join me! :)
*note that I'll still be posting about my faith and goals, as I'm a firm believer in both :) They have their own category links as well (faith and goals), but they won't be posted on the sidebar. Since The Kardia is a faith based love and lifestyle blog, everything I do reflects in what I believe.
Now that you've taken a look at the new categories, you're probably thinking to yourself, "Brittany has a category on there called Fashion! Is she going to do fashion posts?"
I've always loved fashion and dressing up, but my inner critic whispers to me, "You don't have nice enough clothes." "You're not photogenic enough." Sadly, I listened to it, but I still dreamt of doing fashion posts.
That's why this year I'm not listening to that voice in my head. I'm going to get out of my comfort zone and do fashion posts because it's something that makes me happy! Basically, this post by Jana, Why I Started Writing Fashion Posts, sums everything up perfectly.
I can't promise that fashion posts will happen weekly as I have planned (because school, you know?), but they will happen a few times a month. Also, a big shout out needs to go to Caleb, who has just been assigned head photographer for this project ;) Love you honey!
The Blogging Basics series will happen every second and fourth Monday of the month, beginning on January 12th. I've made it biweekly for a few reasons. One, I need to have enough topics to cover for at least a year! Two, I'm a full-time student and don't have a lot of time to create a quality post for the series every week.
I'm really excited for this series! :) I hope you'll find it useful!
Out of all the changes for The Kardia in 2015, I have to say that this one is the one I'm the most excited for! A few weeks ago, I realized how much I love the word Flourish. It means to be successful, prosper, thrive. All of those are things I want to do. The linkup will be a place of encouragement and a way for you to share how you are going to flourish in different areas of life. More details in tomorrow's post!
The linkup will take place the first Friday of every month (with the exception of tomorrow since I have a post planned), meaning that the very first linkup will be on Friday, February 6th. This makes it a little easier to remember too: First Friday Flourish! ;) So many Fs.
Tomorrow's post will be officially introducing the Flourish linkup, what February's prompt is, as well as my vision for the linkup. I really hope you'll join in!
I realize that the first linkup is a whole month from now, so if you'd like me to send you a reminder email the week before, sign up using the link below! I promise to only send you the reminder email and not spam you with random junk.

Social Media Fun
One of my goals for 2015 is to utilize social media more. As much as I love reading what's posted social media, I personally don't share much. As a blogger, social media usage is crucial. Not only does it help you share your content, but it helps you build relationships with people you otherwise wouldn't have connected with.
I want to make my social media engaging and fun to follow! You'll see more behind the scenes pictures, more interesting articles to read, fun finds, and interesting conversations that I hope you'll participate in! Make sure to follow all the different accounts so that you don't miss out on anything exciting!
*note that I've changed my Google+ account to be my personal account instead of The Kardia Blog page. It was getting too mixed up and having one account is easier to manage.
More Date Ideas
I'm laughing as I write this! Not because it's funny or anything, but because blogging date ideas was the whole idea behind The Kardia in the first place! I guess I underestimated how much free time Caleb and I have on the weekends. Between his business and school and blogging, we tend to just sit on the couch and watch The Wonder Years while eating.
Things are going to be different this year though. We will have date night! Instead of being overly optimistic and saying that we'll have date night once a week, we're going to be practical and aim for date night at least twice a month. I hope that weekly date nights can become a thing though. We just need to figure out how to manage our time.
Phew! That was a lengthy post! Kudos to you if you made it to the end without getting distracted like I did! Treat yourself to a new desktop wallpaper designed by yours truly. Happy New Year everyone! Let's make 2015 the best one yet! :)
